Stopping child sexual abuse is only possible when adults have the information and tools to effectively intervene, and most prevention education focuses on adults molesting children. Yet 30% – 50% of sexually abused children are victims of other children or teens under age 18. A 2017 investigation by the Associated Press uncovered about 17,000 reported sexual assaults of students by other students - including in elementary school.
This workshop was developed in consultation with nationally known expert in the field, Joan Tabachnick, and is designed to assist parents, educators, church leaders, camp directors and others to recognize, respond and intervene appropriately to problematic sexual behavior.
We will look at prevalence and impact, and why we need to shift the framework from our concept of adult sexual offenders in order to understand children with problematic behaviors.

- Understanding risk and protective factors, and how to respond to children about whom we are concerned
- Barriers to identification of sexual behavior problems and perception driven responses
- Identifying core elements of evidence-based treatment
- The emotional stages parents often go through when their child has sexually harmed another
- Best practice intervention and safety planning within an organization and in the family
