child safety facility assessment
The physical environment of a church or organization, as well as the flow of children and youth at the facility, is as important to protecting children from sexual abuse as is staff training, congregational education and a good policy. Our Safe Communities team can help you assess your facility and flow and recommend any necessary improvements to enhance child safety.
After we gather some basic information about your programs, activities, and the number of children or youth you serve, our team will schedule an on-site assessment during a time when children or teens are in your care.
Our team does a “walk through” of your facility, paying attention to potential risk areas such as bathrooms, unlocked storage areas, lighting and more. We’ll also look at practices involving arrival and departure of children and youth at your programs or activities, visible identification of “safe adults” certified to work with children and other important safety considerations.
A written report including observations and recommendations to reduce risk is shared with your leadership team at a post-assessment meeting.
