Even with the best of counseling, many survivors need someone to accompany, or walk with them, on the journey of healing. Too often, well intentioned friends or care ministry teams in churches begin such a journey only to find that the intensity and challenges are beyond their capacity. This can result in deep wounding for survivors, who may feel abandoned and not worthy of the care extended, as well as pain and frustration for the caregiver.
This workshop provides the information needed for consideration prior to developing a ministry of accompaniment, as well as the preparation necessary to start one. It can be integrated into an existing deacon or Stephen Ministry, or can be a separate ministry.

- Assessment of an individual’s capacity to accompany
- Vicarious trauma risks/practices to mitigate
